  • Kia has achieved a major milestone with its in-house ‘Kia Charge’ EV roaming service, with over one million charge points now available through its service in Europe.
  • These one million-plus public charging points are spread across 27 European countries, with 55,000 of them being located in the UK alone.
  • With CPOs within Kia Charge continuously expanding their infrastructure, the number of charge points available under Kia Charge is set to hit new highs.

Kia Charge now offers access to one million individual charge points

The achievement by Kia mirrors the seven-digit milestones recently hit by other OEM roaming networks, such as Nissan Charge and Polestar Charge. It marks another step towards making EV ownership as convenient and seamless as ever, and comes as its fully-electric portfolio is bigger than ever – now consisting of the EV3, EV4, EV5, EV6, EV9 and PV5. Plug and Charge is also starting to be rolled out across Kia EVs and compatible CPOs, allowing the charging authentication process to be completely automated – with the car acting as the payment device.

Kia’s recently updated app has focused on this seamlessness further. Now, this one app for all things EV natively includes Kia Charge, with the built-in EV route planner also suggesting public charging locations to stop at, on longer distance journeys.

Its growing in-house charging network is powered by partnerships with major CPOs, granting access to a diverse range of EV chargers, from low-power, overnight destination chargers to ultra-rapid units capable of recharging EVs in under an hour. IONITY is just one of the CPOs available through Kia Charge – and with their own network set to expand from 5,000 charge points today to around 13,000 by 2030, it’s easy to see how Kia’s own network will continue to grow at an impressive rate.

Marc Hedrich, President & CEO of Kia Europe, commented:

“Achieving one million charging points represents a significant milestone that underlines Kia’s commitment to providing our EV customers with a comprehensive ecosystem of public, residential, and depot charging solutions. This accomplishment highlights our contribution to advancing e-mobility and facilitating the shift toward more sustainable transportation solutions.”
