  • In an effort to make EV ownership an even more attractive proposition, Volvo Cars is introducing an offer of one years worth of free home charging for Swedish customers who purchase or lease a new Volvo EV.
  • The offer, which will be made available from February 2026, is being carried out in partnership with Swedish sustainable energy company, Vattenfall.
  • Insights from this initial offer will also pave the way for a potential global rollout, with Volvo planning to partner with other energy providers to make the free home charging offer available in every territory.

Volvo to offer 25,000km worth of free charging to new Swedish customers

The free home charging offer, which begins from early next year, will give private Swedish buyers who lease or purchase a new Volvo EV an offer of 5,150 kWh worth of free home charging energy. Based on the efficiency of a Volvo EX90, that’s equivalent to around 25,000 kilometres worth of driving, more than enough to allow the average driver to charge up at home, free of charge, for an entire year.

To be eligible for the free energy, customers must also switch to a Vattenfall energy tariff, and use the smart charging feature within the Volvo Cars app – which schedules charging to take place during periods where energy sources are both cleaner and cheaper.

Following the Swedish free charging offer, Volvo Cars hopes to roll out this new EV purchase offer on a more global scale, by developing partnerships with other sustainable energy firms. Other European countries are likely to be the first to see a similar offer, followed by territories beyond.

Alejandro Castro Pérez, Vice President of Energy Solutions at Volvo Cars, commented:

“We are listening to our customers, and by providing free charging offers we hope to create value for them and accelerate our collective journey to a smarter, greener society.”

Branislav Slavic, Head of Customers & Solutions at Vattenfall Nordics, added:

“We warmly welcome this initiative from Volvo Cars to boost a future where everyone can choose fossil free ways of transportation. Volvo Cars adding an offer of free home charging from Vattenfall, when purchasing a new electric car, is a positive, sustainable step. Working together to encourage the use of electric cars with fossil free electricity, starting in Sweden, is incredibly inspiring.”
