- The Spark Alliance, a new partnership that brings together four major European CPOs: Atlante, Electra, Fastned, and IONITY, has now gone live, simplifying the charging process and boosting consumer confidence in public charging.
- Under the agreement, the charging stations of all four CPOs will be integrated into the charging apps of each other, creating a total of 1,700 locations across the continent under a single app.
- This initial stage of the Spark Alliance will enhance the visibility of public chargers from each CPO, arriving just in time for the busy summer holiday season.
Four CPOs come together in an effort to make public charging seamless
The agreement between the four CPOs in question aims to create one seamless charging network, with charge point discovery, price visibility, and the payment process all taking place under the customer’s favourite app of the four CPOs, with no separate roaming app required. As the rollout continues after this initial launch, drivers will be able to search and pay for charging at over 11,000 charge points, spanning 1,700 specific locations across 25 different European countries.
That figure may seem small in comparison to roaming providers such as Octopus Electroverse and Polestar Charge which both recently topped 1 million chargers on their networks, but the Spark Alliance is opting for a different strategy. Instead of encompassing as many charge points as possible, it’s focusing on high power rapid and ultra-rapid charging locations, with all of the charge points under its alliance operating on 100% renewable power. All four of these CPOs are also continuing to expand their respective rapid and ultra-rapid infrastructure, giving clear potential for the number of charging locations available under the Spark Alliance to grow further.
A Spark Alliance statement said:
“Atlante, Electra, Fastned and IONITY share the mission to accelerate the transition to electric mobility and drive a fossil-free future. By uniting forces, they are removing key barriers to EV ownership and enabling seamless EV travel across Europe, whether for daily commutes, business trips or special holiday journeys.”
