  • Volkswagen has expanded its Transporter lineup, launching two new fully-electric variants of its seventh-generation Transporter.
  • This includes an all-electric eight-seater shuttle, as well as an all-electric Kombi model.
  • The Transporter was already available in EV form as a panel van, but with these new options, Volkswagen’s range of electric van options just got even wider.

Volkswagen expands the EV variants of its Transporter

The new electric shuttle variant of the Transporter, will be available in both short and long-wheelbase form, with the latter allowing for nine seats to be specified, instead of eight on the short wheelbase version. This setup means the e-Transporter Shuttle will be the largest EV in terms of passenger capacity launched by Volkswagen yet, besting the ID. Buzz, which can be specified in a seven-seat configuration. This now means Volkswagen now has an offer to rival existing eight and nine-seat electric vans, such as the Peugeot E-Traveller and Ford E-Tourneo Custom. This model is likely to be a hit with both larger families, and transfer and taxi services. Prices for this model will start from £56,129 including VAT in the UK, whilst offering a claimed battery range of 194 miles.

The other new e-Transporter model to be launched by Volkswagen is the an EV variant of the Kombi, which combines five or six seats with a large load space and payload capacity of up to 896 kilograms, to create a flexible commercial vehicle. Claimed range on this model stands at 196 miles, whilst prices start at £53,404 including VAT. Like the Shuttle, it’ll be available with both short and long-wheelbase options.

With these new options available, Volkswagen’s e-Transporter is in with a chance of becoming one of the best electric vans on the market. However, with new rival electric vans on the horizon, including the Kia PV5, which will be available in both cargo and passenger-carrying variations, it won’t be without strong competition.
