- Renault Trucks and UK retailer Marks & Spencer are celebrating six months of electric truck operations for the retailer, after introducing fully-electric HGVs from Renault into its fleet at the start of the year.
- The six-month milestone further proves the capabilities of electric trucks for UK fleets, with M&S drivers commending the improved comfort, handling, and reduced noise levels compared to previous ICE-powered trucks.
- The five Renault E-Tech Ts in service are operating out of M&S’ clothing and home distribution centre outside of London, helping to provide goods to 20 M&S stores across London and the South East.
M&S’ electric truck journey continues
M&S is looking to maximise the use of its new electric trucks, with these five being double-shifted out of its Welham Green depot, made possible by charging infrastructure installed at the site by Voltempo. Both M&S and Renault Trucks exist as founding members of the eFREIGHT 2030 consortium, which forms part of the UK government’s zero emission HGV and infrastructure demonstrator programme. This looks to boost uptake of electric HGVs across the country.
The milestone marks part of a wider trend in the UK, with a number of other big businesses adding electric trucks to its logistical fleets. Royal Mail, for instance, added the first electric trucks to its fleet this year, whilst supply chain firm Wincanton also recently added the first of 24 electric trucks to its UK fleet.
Carlos Rodrigues, Managing Director for Renault Trucks UK and Ireland, commented:
“We are proud that M&S has chosen Renault Trucks to lead its transition to zero-emission HGVs and delighted to hear that the progress and performance has been so positive. By switching to electric HGVs, M&S is setting the pace for sustainable retail logistics, and we are delighted to be supporting them on their journey to Net Zero. This is not only a demonstration, but also proof that large-scale, emission-free transport is already here, and it works.”
