- Continuing the factual and myth-busting EV campaign set up by Auto Trader, ChargeUK, and the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders late last year, the fact sheet has been updated with the latest statistics on electric cars in the UK.
- Most impressively, new data shows that 9 in 10 current EV drivers in the UK intend to stick with an all-electric powertrain for their future car, highlighting a high level of consumer satisfaction.
- EVA England, the BVRLA, and Cox Automotive Europe have also now joined as champions of this factual electric vehicle campaign.
As EVs get more accessible in the UK, customer satisfaction is increasing
Auto Trader, ChargeUK, and the SMMT have provided the latest update in their shared initiative to bust common myths against electric cars. Comparing the most up-to-date fact sheet compared to the original November 2024 launch of the campaign also provides a useful indication of just how fast the electric car market continues to become more affordable and accessible for buyers. Here are just a few impressive growth stats: back in November, the average range of a new EV on the market was 236 miles, and this has now increased to over 290 miles. The number of public charge points in the UK stood at around 71,459 in November, and now stands at just under 81,000. Finally, the number of new electric car models priced below the £30,000 mark has increased from 21 to 33.

Erin Baker, Editorial Director at Auto Trader, commented:
“We’re delighted to have EVA England, BVRLA and Cox Automotive join us on our mission to provide more balanced and fact-based narratives to both retailers and consumers. We know a change as significant as electrification can leave lots of room for confusion, but we believe if the industry works together, we can help everyone feel confident as they electrify. One highlight of the recent update is the growth of affordable EVs – we need to make sure there’s an EV for everyone and two in five used electric cars now under £20,000 is a good sign.”
Vicky Edmonds, CEO of EVA England, added:
“EVA England are delighted to be joining this partnership of organisations working to cut through the noise and get the real facts about owning an electric vehicle out to consumers. As a drivers’ association, we campaign to make the transition to electric driving affordable and accessible to all. Part of that is dispelling the myths and making sure drivers understand the benefits of their cars and how to make the most of them. We’re delighted to bring that perspective to a project that, like us, aims to provide confidence to drivers who are still considering the switch.”
