  • European chargepoint operator Fastned has brought additional ultra-rapid EV charging infrastructure to Scotland’s EV drivers, with the opening of a new site on the west coast consisting of several 400kW EV chargers.
  • The site, located in Greenock, just west of Glasgow, will initially consist of four ultra-rapid charging bays.
  • It’s the fifth Fastned charging hub to open in Scotland, with further expansion across the country planned.

Scotland benefits from 400kW EV chargers with new hub

Located on the main road through Greenock, the new charging hub will be an asset not just for local EV drivers but also those travelling from Glasgow towards Scotland’s scenic west coast – and comes just in time for the busy summer period.

This new charging hub is initially launching with four charging bays, with speeds of up to 400kW available – enough to take full advantage of the fastest charging electric cars on the market, offering up to 100 miles of extra range in just five minutes. The site has the capacity to expand to eight charging bays, in the future. The site encompasses the traditional Fastned solar canopy that we’ve become used to on its new sites, helping provide power to the site, along with keeping users dry in harsh weather and serving as a helpful landmark to those searching for EV charging.

With this new hub, Greenock’s own charging infrastructure has taken another impressive step up – with ultra-rapid chargers already live in the town from other CPOs such as Source EV and Ionity. This new site is the fifth to be opened by Fastned in Scotland, and now means that the CPO has 33 charging hubs live across the United Kingdom. The country has seen significant growth in its public charging infrastructure over recent months, with data from Octopus Electroverse now showing that the number of public EV chargers surpasses 100,000.

With more ultra-rapid charging stations in the pipeline, Fastned’s efforts to become a significant player right across the European EV charging market are only just getting started.

Tom Hurst, UK Country Director for Fastned, commented:

“We’re delighted to open our fifth charging hub in Scotland, and provide much needed charging in an area with a low number of ultra-rapid chargers. Watch this space as there’s much more to come!”
