- British performance car manufacturer, Ariel, revealed an all-electric take on its Nomad, which it calls a go-anywhere sports car.
- This fully electric model is just a concept, for now, Ariel have hinted at putting the unique EV into full production, depending on customer feedback and the results of extensive testing of the E-Nomad.
- Thanks to Ariel’s relatively small size as a company, the E-Nomad project received grants from the UK’s Department of Trade, via both the Advanced Propulsion Centre and the Niche Vehicle Network.
A sub-900kg EV, designed to race anywhere

Every part of the E-Nomad’s electric drivetrain is designed to be as light as possible, maintaining Ariel’s long-standing ethos of lightweightness. The 41kWh battery pack on board weighs under 300kg, and helps to power a combined motor and gearbox unit, producing 281hp and weighing just 92kg. Further reinforcing the E-Nomad’s green credentials, Ariel has opted for lightweight composite body panels, which retain strength but produce 73% less CO2 than a carbon fibre equivalent, in production.
All of this helps keep the overall weight of the E-Nomad at just 896kg – slightly heavier than its ICE counterpart’s 670kg, but nonetheless impressive, and helps it achieve a 0-60mph time of just 3.4 seconds. The Ariel E-Nomad isn’t the first electric vehicle to come from the specialist manufacturer, after it revealed a more road and track-focussed EV called the Ariel HIPERCAR, in collaboration with GKN Automotive, around two years ago.
Ariel Director, Simon Saunders, commented on the reveal:
“While the E-Nomad is a concept, it does show production intent for the vehicle and hints at just a small part of Ariel’s future. Once it has been through our usual, gruelling testing regime we could opt to add E-Nomad alongside its ICE Nomad 2 sibling, so we’ll take great interest in customer feedback on the concept car.”
