- Volkswagen and Australian company Ampol, who operate public and home EV charging solutions within the country, have announced a partnership surrounding EV charging.
- Australian owners of Volkswagen’s EV range will now be able to purchase Ampol’s AmpCharge home EV charger alongside their new Volkswagen, and have the charger unit colour-coded to their vehicle.
- Additionally, for the first 12 months of ownership, VW owners can benefit from discounted charging rates on Ampol’s public charging network.
VW and Ampol agreement is a boost to Australia’s EV industry
With Volkswagen Australia bringing its EV range to the country this summer, initially with models such as the ID.4, ID.5, and ID. Buzz, the Ampol agreement is perfect timing, and should lend a helping hand to sales. Ampol’s growing network of public chargers will be boosted with the installation of chargepoints across the 100-plus Volkswagen dealerships in the country, whilst the car maker will share customer insights to guide the location of future Ampol public charging stations. The ability for owners to colour-match their Ampol home charger to their vehicle will be an industry first, while owners will be able to scan their driveway with an app on their phone ahead of installation, to identify suitable locations to place the charger.
The specific discount rate on Ampol public chargers that will be offered to ID. owners hasn’t been set just yet, but will be announced ahead of Volkswagen’s first EV deliveries to Australia later in the summer.
Michal Szaniecki, Managing Director of Volkswagen Group Australia, commented:
Two giants of personal mobility are helping more Australians transition to lower emissions vehicle ownership more quickly, making seamless their transition to e-mobility… Eighty percent of charging in urban areas will be done at home, while we are supporting the growing Ampol network on the open road, so this association literally empowers our customers wherever they live around this great country.”
