Renault promotes the wider emobility sector alongside its Renault 4

  • At last week’s Paris Motor Show, Renault highlighted that it’s not just electric cars alone that’ll help decarbonise global mobility, highlighting four other zero-emission transport solutions, developed by other French startup firms.
  • These were shown off in conjunction with the all-electric 4 E-Tech, which was also revealed in full for the first time at the event.
  • As well as highlighting the number of options available in emobility, Renault is hoping that the collaboration will further highlight the practical side of the new 4.

Renault shows off emobility beyond electric cars

At the event, where the circa-€30,000 EV was revealed in full, the new EV was on stand alongside four other forms of zero-emission mobility solutions: Namely, an electric light aircraft, an electric motorcycle, electric water bike, and a lightweight mini-caravan, which is within the range of the Renault 4’s own maximum towing capacity.

The electric aircraft comes from French startup Aura Aero, who specialise specifically in air transport decarbonisation. The battery provides a maximum airtime of one hour, with a recharge time of 30 minutes. The electric motorbike comes courtesy of Ateliers HeritageBike, creator of both ebikes and electric motorbikes with a retro twist – much like those from Maeving. Orders for the bike out of this Renault collaboration are already open, with a starting price of €26,900.

The water-based ebike came courtesy of Searider, which has an on-sea runtime of approximately 90 minutes, and a top speed of 55 km/h – a viable replacement for the primarily petrol-powered jet ski segment.

Most suited to the Renault 4, however, was a 4-branded mini-caravan from Carapate Aventure. Weighing in at only 560kg, it’s well under the Renault 4 E-Tech’s maximum towing capacity, making it a perfect partner. Lightweight caravans such as these will be crucial for making even the most affordable EVs more versatile.

All four of these products weren’t just concepts, either, with preorder books for all four being opened at the motor show – and will all be produced in limited numbers. These four products are all from French-based startups, once again helping position as a uniquely French brand. The stylish design of these items also matches with Renault’s recent EV design overhaul.

Arnaud Belloni, Global Chief Marketing Officer of Renault Brand, commented on the collaboration:

“For the reveal of Renault 4 E-Tech 100% electric, we are proud to be partnering four French start-ups presenting four all-electric means of mobility. It’s a stylish way to show the general public how e-mobility has developed to encompass all forms of transport, including the 4L, which is now Renault 4 E-Tech 100% electric.”
