MINI has shared exciting new details about its upcoming electric vehicles (EVs), the Cooper E and the Cooper SE. The fifth generation of the 3-door MINI will be produced in Leipzig starting in November and is expected to be available for purchase by the end of the year.
The MINI Cooper E will come with a 40.7 kWh battery and an output of 135 kW, while the MINI Cooper SE will have a 54.2 kWh battery and an output of 160 kW, resulting in an impressive 300-400 km expected range.
According to MINI, the new Cooper Electric is “in the starting blocks” and is part of a larger lineup of new EVs.
The MINI Countryman, which was revealed last month, will also be produced alongside the new Cooper models. Additionally, the production model of the Aceman, which was presented last year as an electric concept, will complete the new MINI EV range starting in 2024.
While MINI has indicated that its EVs will be available in Canada, it remains unclear whether they will be sold in the United States. Nonetheless, the BMW factory in Mexico is expected to play a role in production for North America.
MINI stated that it was “able to draw on development expertise within the BMW Group in order to achieve further improved driving dynamics in the new MINI Cooper Electric.”
This announcement provides a good idea of BMW’s plans to achieve net-zero, further adding to the growing list of major automotive brands that have embraced the future and laid out their electric strategy for the medium term.
