Microlino have released pictures of their new Pioneer Series two-seater electric vehicle (EV). The Italian carmaker, which first showed its concept six years ago Geneva Car Show, will officially launch it on May 24.
The first edition will be limited to 999 vehicles, as a homage to the company’s first innovation, the Micro Scooter that the company founder Wim Ouboter invented in 1999.
The design of the Pioneer Series Microlinos might hark back to early bubble cars that were around in the 1940s and 1950s but this is a zero-emissions modern version with an electric powertrain.
They will come equipped with a 10.5 kWh battery which will deliver a range of up to 120 miles (177km ). Other battery versions will be available that offer up to 143 miles (230km) of range.
The Microlino weighs just 536kg and will have a top speed of 56mph (90kph). Best of all it can be charged at home in just four hours using a regular plug socket.
This unique looking two-seater offers 230 litres of space in the boot area. The company says it has the space for two adults and three crates of beer. Over 80 percent of the vehicles’ components are made in Europe, with most coming from its home country of Italy helping with sustainability.
It has a neat sunroof for the ultimate summer feeling and in keeping with modern times features a premium interior made from vegan leather and suede. The Microlino also comes complete with portable Bluetooth speakers that seamlessly connect with your phone.
The Pioneer Series will come in two distinct colours, Atlantis Blue and Torino Aluminium, that are only available in this specific first edition. Each will have its own unique number visible on the inside.
This small electric vehicle will be classed as a quadricycle in most of Europe which means it can be driven with a moped licence, similar to the Citroën Ami. This opens its usage to younger drivers too.
We’re sure it will divide people like Marmite but we love it because it’s small practical and affordable. It’s ideal for short drives whether it’s a commute, a trip to the shops or the school run. Plus, being small it will be a doddle to park and manoeuvre.
