Maserati confirms its all-electric future, with MC20 electric variant arriving next year

  • Maserati has once again confirmed its commitment to a fully-electric model portfolio by 2028, with a release date now pinned for the electric take on its MC20 supercar, which will be sold alongside its petrol-powered sibling.
  • As a luxury vehicle manufacturer Maserati is ahead of its competitors EV goals, with Bentley planning to go fully-electric by 2030, with the same applying to Aston Martin’s core range.
  • The company’s latest statement also confirms that its first electric convertible, the GranCabrio Folgore, is launching this year.

700hp electric flagship arriving in 2025

The new announcement from Maserati confirms that the MC20 Folgore – that’s Italian for lightning – will arrive next year, overhauling the petrol-powered body released back in 2020 with a tri-motor electric powertrain delivering over 700hp. These figures make it a serious contender for one of the best electric sports cars

As Maserati is part of the Stellantis group, the brand’s electric transition forms part of the group’s ‘Dare Forward 2030’ goal to have over 75 separate battery electric vehicle models on sale by the next decade, with a more ambitious goal of 100% of new passenger car sales within the conglomerate consisting of fully electric vehicles by 2030. Alfa Romeo, also within the Stellantis group, is set to fully switch to the plug even earlier – with all new models on sale going electric by 2027. Despite its Stellantis ownership and consequent parts sharing, Maserati has also confirmed that within its electric era, design, development, and manufacturing of its models will continue to be based within Italy.

Maserati has already released two battery electric vehicles within Europe so far – the GranTurismo Folgore, a mile munching grand tourer, and the Grecale Folgore, a luxury SUV.

We will offer our preferred customers the most powerful Maseratis ever, pushing the boundaries of driving pleasure to a new era.
