First all-electric forecourt to open in the UK this November

The UK will see its first all-electric forecourt style charging service station this November thanks to GRIDSERVE. Named the Electric Forecourt®, it will be similar to a regular service station with all the usual big brand retail and food outlets, only for electric cars and vehicles. Plus, there will be an electric vehicle education centre.

GRIDSERVE’s new Electric Forecourt®, which will be located near Braintree, Essex, will offer chargers rated at up to 350kW, so electric car drivers can charge up quickly and conveniently. The station will be big enough for 30 electric vehicles to charge simultaneously, and the high power chargers will enable owners to add up to 200 miles of range in just 20 minutes.

The Braintree location will be the first of over 100 Electric Forecourt® sites to be built across the country by GRIDSERVE over the coming five years. It’s part of a £1bn programme designed to make driving electric cars and vehicles a more enjoyable, stress-free and, most importantly, convenient experience.

GRIDSERVE have partnered with ABB, Tesla and the AA to deliver a world class customer experience of the future. These new venture has been financed by GRIDSERVE together with Hitachi Capital UK PLC and Innovate UK.

Toddington Harper, Founder and CEO of GRIDSERVE, said: Our UK-wide network of over 100 customer-focused Electric Forecourts® will eliminate range and charging anxiety by making it easier and cheaper to charge an electric vehicle than to fuel a petrol or diesel alternative. The UK’s first Electric Forecourt®, represents so much more than an electric equivalent of a modern petrol station – it will deliver a fully loaded customer experience, offering the Best of British retail and customer service to cater for a full range of consumer and driver needs.”
