    Wiesmann’s Project Thunderball electric vehicle (EV) raises €700,000 at charity gala

    One of the first models of Wiesmann’s hotly-anticipated all-electric roadsters, ‘Project Thunderball’, went under the hammer at the prestigious amfAR Gala Cannes recently. 

    It raised €700,000 to support the vital work of amfAR in research into, and awareness of the global fight against, HIV and AIDS. This is not only a massive positive for the charities but shows that high-end electric vehicles (EVs) are commanding the respect of purchasers at this level and that they are the future of luxury motoring. 

    Held at the world-renowned Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc, the Gala marked the public debut of the world-first all-electric Wiesmann. These will be hand-built at the company’s ‘Gecko’ factory, a stunning state-of-the-art facility in Dülmen, Germany.

    Project Thunderball is Wiesmann’s response to the electrified vehicle revolution. This is the first time the brand has combined the remarkable characteristics of an electric powertrain with its trademark performance, driving pleasure and styling of a true Wiesmann. 

    Project Thunderball combines classic lines with a modern zero-emissions powertrain making it a timeless classic of the future. It really is a beautiful looking car for those that can afford it. 

    The world-first all-electric convertible roadster will be crafted from carbon fibre, weighing in at little more than 1700kg (3747lb). It offers a power to weight ratio of 2.5kg per horsepower, bringing remarkable agility and handling more than worthy of the Wiesmann badge.

    The target range is around 310 miles (500km) thanks to its state-of-the-art 800V high-voltage architecture providing a maximum 92kWh battery capacity (83kWh available). This is uniquely high for a roadster. 

    Project Thunderball is powered by twin electric rear-mid mounted motors delivering up to 500kW (680 horsepower) to the rear wheels and 1100 Nm of torque. This delivers phenomenal straight-line performance and a targeted 0-62mph (0-100kph) acceleration time of 2.9 seconds
