EO Charging recently announced its partnership with the online shopping platform Amazon. EO has designed, manufactured and installed a network of electric charging stations to power Amazon’s growing fleet of electric vehicles in the UK and Ireland. This is especially good as online services and deliveries have increased massively over the last year.
Founded by Charlie Jardine in 2015, EO Charging designs and manufactures electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and smart software for homes, fleets and destinations. Jardine was frustrated by the unreliability of existing infrastructure and set up EO with a pledge to make charging simple and reliable.
From his early days of development working in a barn at grandfather’s farm in Suffolk, things moved forward quickly. The development of the EO Genius, a modular and scalable smart charger designed to support the electrification of fleets, apartments and destinations, was a game-changer.
The business grew rapidly and now distributes to over 30 countries around the world and has attracted a blue-chip client base. Despite the pandemic, the past year has marked a step-change for the business, experiencing record revenue growth in 2020 fuelled by some major contract wins in the UK and overseas.
EO’s success has seen staff numbers more than double to over 100 since the outset of 2020. In March EO was ranked at number 27 on the FT 1000 list of Europe’s fastest-growing companies, the list’s leading business in the electric vehicle sector.
The success of the EO Genius quickly positioned the company as a leader in the fleet charging space and led to the collaboration with Amazon. Over the last year, EO has been working with Amazon’s teams to design, manufacture and install over 800 electric charging stations across the UK and Ireland, powering Amazon’s fleet of electric delivery vehicles.
EO now provides charging hardware, software and operational support to Amazon. Not only have they helped install physical charging stations at Amazon’s logistics sites in the UK, but are also providing software and maintenance services for the whole Amazon electric fleet in Europe.
This will support the addition of over 1,800 Mercedes-Benz zero-emission electric vehicles to Amazon’s fleet in Europe, including over 500 e-vans for its delivery service providers and their drivers to deliver orders to customers in the UK. From design to deployment, EO completed one of the world’s largest fleet electrification project, helping those infamous brown packages go green.
