Recent research conducted by TrackDays.co.uk in the UK has revealed that electric vehicles (EVs) are more popular than traditional classic favourites for driving experiences. Three times as many people are opting to take to the track in an EV.
This shows there is a huge appetite for people to experience electric cars, especially the performance models. The survey found that the Tesla Model S ‘Ludicrous’ P90D Thrill Experience is seeing three times the number of bookings as the Track Days’ Four British Classic Blast with High Speed Passenger Ride.
It’s believed that the high performance of the Tesla Model S may account for the volume of bookings at TrackDays in the last year. The Model S saloon car might not look like a high performer but can accelerate from 0-62mph (0-100kph) in under three seconds.
The sheer speed and performance available could be enough to turn the tide in favour of electrification. It would be interesting to know the age range for this. In our experience younger drivers tend to be more open-minded towards electric cars and aren’t stuck in the era of the smell of petrol and the roar of the engine.
Instead, the younger drivers understand performance. We look forward to when the next generation of electric hypercars hit the track because they will turn the head of even the biggest and oldest petrolhead. That said, the Model S used by TrackDays is pretty close in terms of performance.
Dan Jones, TrackDays.co.uk operations manager, said: “It seems that Brits are gearing up for a transition to all-electric travel in the coming years, with more motorists looking to test the exhilarating Tesla Model S at circuits up and down the country.
“It is highly likely that most of us will own an EV in the future, and driving one on a race track gives motorists the chance to experience EVs, which might persuade them to convert to electric when replacing their current model.”
