ChargePoint, who build electric car charging infrastructures in cities around the globe, have raised £97 million ($127 million) to build upon their global charging platform. The company, which was started in 2007 and have already helped to create 114,000 charge stations for businesses and fleets in the Americas, Africa, Asia and Europe, are planning to increase their size of their ChargePoint map to 2.5 million by 2025.
The idea is to help increase electric car adoption by making more charge stations available, and support the growing network of electric cars and vehicles used both commercially and personally. They also plan to make life easier by offering energy management tools to reduce costs, provide an app showing available charging stations and deliver reports of energy efficiencies. Plus, they’ll offer real-time data for charge stations and vehicle information.
Pat Romano, ChargePoint CEO, said: “COVID-19 has accelerated societal shifts that were already underway before the pandemic. As the world sheltered in place, communities enjoyed cleaner air, and now that the transition back to a more ‘normal’ reality is returning, consumers are increasingly asking how to achieve cleaner air permanently. And mobility will play a significant role.
As demand increases for online deliveries, so does the demand for delivery fleets. As a result, businesses and fleets are intensifying their efforts to transition to electric drive, as governments double down on climate change commitments. Businesses are establishing aggressive sustainability targets, as well as seeking to reduce cost and improve efficiency through fleets. EV charging is helping to make a difference.”
