- BYD achieves global EV market prominence with 5 million NEV milestone
- First automaker globally to hit this achievement
- BYD’s rapid progress: 13 years for 1 million NEVs, 18 months for 3 million, and just 9 months more for 5 million
BYD has skyrocketed into the global EV market
BYD has achieved an impressive milestone: rolling off its 5 millionth new energy vehicle (NEV). This feat positions BYD as the first automaker globally to accomplish such a remarkable achievement.
“New energy vehicles” is a term defined by the Chinese government. It pertains to plug-in electric vehicles that qualify for public subsidies. This encompasses battery electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs).
“Today marks a historic moment for BYD as we witness our 5 millionth new energy vehicle rolls off the production line.
On this special occasion, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to our customers across the globe for their trust in our products, our partners in the industry for this journey shared together, and every one of our employees whose hard work and dedication have made this landmark possible.”
Wang Chuanfu, Chairman and President, BYD
BYD reached this milestone at remarkable speed. 13 years for the first million NEVs, 18 months to reach three million. Staggeringly, only an additional 9 months to hit the five million mark. In 2022, BYD’s NEV sales exceeded 1.86 million units. This trend carried into 2023, with cumulative sales of 1.5 million units by July.
Notably, BYD’s global NEV sales have soared beyond 4.8 million units by July 2023. This surge is backed by the company’s strategic expansion efforts since 2010. Its electric public transport solutions are now operational in over 400 cities across 70+ countries.
BYD’s influence extends to 54 countries with their NEVs. Models like the ATTO 3 leading sales in Thailand, Israel, and Singapore. A host of technological innovations such as the Blade Battery and DM-i Super Hybrid System, have helped BYD skyrocket into the EV market.
Moving forward, BYD remains committed to the EV transition, pledging to offer enhanced mobility experiences and driving the world toward a greener future.
