Best concept electric vehicles (EVs) of 2022

With 2023 now upon us, we are excited to see what the year ahead brings in electric vehicle (EV) space and to be able to share it with you. After such an amazing 2022, with so many positive announcements from both big and small players, it promises to be a special year ahead, especially as more people transition to zero emission vehicles. 

To celebrate this we look back at some of the most exciting concept cars unveiled throughout the year which could be with us soon:

Togg C-SUV Concept Crossover

Turkish global technology brand Togg made its public debut with their new concept crossover C-SUV electric car. Togg have some big goals and aims to produce one million vehicles in five different segments by 2030. The company plans to launch its first mass-production vehicle by the end of 2022.

Budget Airline Car

The Budget Airline Car concept has been designed as a new type of car for the future. It’s been created for those who don’t want to travel by the most environmentally damaging form of transport, the short-haul flight, and for people who don’t want to be close to hundreds of people in airports and aircraft cabins.

It was conceived by Car Design Research (CDR), a UK-based agency that has worked for the design groups of 11 of the world’s top 20 car companies over the last twenty years, during lock-down last year. The Budget Airline Car is a concept for a new type of car design that would produce only two per cent of the emissions per passenger compared to a short-haul flight. 

Polestar O₂ Concept

Polestar, the electric performance car brand, revealed its new slick-looking convertible concept car that redefines sports roadsters for the electric age. The company has named it the Polestar O₂ and the hard-top convertible is Polestar’s vision of open-top performance and a thrilling driving experience, with all the benefits of electric mobility. 

Winnebago Industries e-RV

Winnebago Industries, a leading outdoor lifestyle product manufacturer, revealed its e-RV earlier this year. This is the first all-electric zero-emissions motorhome concept from the major recreation vehicle (RV) manufacturer. The new model from Winnebago e-RV is completely different looking from the original models but is far more practical for modern driving and life on the road. 

Audi A6 Avant e-tron

Audi revealed the company’s new A6 e-tron concept, the A6 e-tron Avant electric estate car. Like the Audi A6 e-tron concept that was shown in 2021, the A6 Avant also has an exclusively electric drive system based on the forward-looking Premium Platform Electric (PPE) platform and will deliver up to 700 kilometres (435 miles) of range.

The new estate car measures 4,960mm in length, 1,960mm wide and is 1,440mm tall, which puts it in the luxury class. The fastest electric Avant models in this class will offer impressive performances too, sprinting from 0-62mph (0-100kph) in less than four seconds. We love the practicality and performance of this electric estate. 

Lincoln Star Concept

Lincoln, which is owned by the Ford Motor Company, released pictures of its Lincoln Star Concept. The Star Concept features a sleek aerodynamic exterior with a modern connected cabin. This new electric car from Lincoln hints at the brand’s design language for its future electric vehicles. 

Renault Scenic Vision Concept

Renault unveiled its neat-looking Scenic Vision crossover, an innovative concept car that brings the brand’s vision for a greener, safer and more inclusive future to life. This is a hybrid with a difference, which features a combined electric and hydrogen powertrain.

The Scenic Vision’s design and manufacture incorporate methods that the Renault Group and its brands will use to achieve carbon neutrality in Europe by 2040 and worldwide by 2050. The Scenic Vision showcases Renault’s future all-electric family cars and provides a preview of an all-electric model that will be unveiled in 2024. 

Buick Wildcat EV Concept 

Buick, which is part of the General Motors family, unveiled the Wildcat EV concept. This slick-looking coupe was developed to convey the all-new design language that will influence Buick production models for the foreseeable future. 

We just hope that something that resembles this slick-looker will actually hit Buick’s production lines. It combines retro classic curves with sharper contemporary lines bringing a truly modern shape that we love. 

Audi Urbansphere Concept 

Audi unveiled its new space-age Audi Urbansphere, part of three concept cars from Audi including the sporty Skysphere and Grandsphere. This concept was systematically designed from the inside out, with the designers and engineers creating itprimarily for use in traffic of Chinese megacities where personal space is in short supply. 

This concept offers the largest interior space of any Audi car to date and intelligently coordinates this with technologies and digital services that appeal to all the senses and thus offer a new quality of experience. For the first time, potential customers in China also took part, contributing their desires and experiences to the development process.


ŠKODA released an image of the brand’s new VISION 7S concept car. As the name implies, and the sketch shows, this new electric vehicle is a spacious seven-seater family car of the future.

The company revealed the use of sustainable materials to create the minimalist interior which is characterised by generous space for up to seven people in three rows of seats and incorporates ŠKODA’s signature Simply Clever features. 

Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept

Dodge, known best for their classic gas-guzzling American muscle cars, revealed the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept. This car offers a glimpse at the brand’s electric future through a vehicle that drives like a Dodge, looks like a Dodge and even sounds like Dodge but has zero emissions.

The modern version of the Charger muscles aside the boring battery electric vehicle (BEV) paradigm and replaces it with an electrified vehicle unlike any on the road today. A new propulsion system drives the Charger Daytona SRT Concept with performance that exceeds the Dodge brand’s famed SRT Hellcat engine, accompanied by an industry-first BEV exhaust sound. 

Lincoln Model L100 Concept 

Lincoln, the luxury automotive brand of Ford Motor Company in the US, unveiled its Lincoln Model L100 Concept. This is said to reveal Lincoln’s vision for mobility in the future. 

According to Lincoln, the fully-electric Model L100 Concept pushes the boundaries of Lincoln’s Quiet Flight design to create connected experiences that reimagine the ultimate vehicle sanctuary of tomorrow. 

Polestar 6 LA Concept

Polestar, the Swedish electric performance car manufacturer, unveiled its Polestar 6 LA Concept. It proved so popular that all 500 build slots for the Polestar 6 LA Concept version were  reserved online within a week of the production announcement. 

Expected to launch in 2026, the Polestar 6 LA Concept edition is an exclusive initial version of Polestar 6. This model will be available in the unique Sky blue exterior and feature many other key elements of the Polestar O₂ concept car announced in March. 

Volkswagen ID. XTREME Concept

Volkswagen continues to expand its ID. range of electric vehicles revealing the ID. XTREME. This fully electric concept car looks like Volkswagen’s ID.4 GTX on steroids and is designed for rugged outdoor adventure.

It features an all-wheel-drive system based on the ID.4 GTX and combines the strengths of a modern electric sports utility vehicle (SUV) with the sense of adventure all encapsulated in an off-road vehicle. The ID. XTREME features a high-performance drive on the rear axle and software adaptations in the drive control unit increase the system power of the concept car by 65kW to 285kW compared with the ID.4 GTX. 

Citroën oli Concept 

Citroën revealed details of its new Citroën oli concept that follows in the footsteps of the quirky-looking but practical Ami 100% ëlectric. It showcases Citroën’s innovative and unconventional take on electric family mobility. We’re sure the looks are going to divide people but the child in us loves the toy-like looks. 

Citroën oli concept is designed to do the same for family mobility that Ami achieved for personal urban mobility. The French carmaker says it acts as a precursor to the concepts and innovations that will be available in future Citroën electric models. 

Toyota bZ Compact SUV Concept

Toyota released details of the new bZ Compact SUV Concept. The company gave a glimpse of what the future could be with the Toyota bZ Compact SUV, extending the vision under the “Toyota bZ” brand umbrella. 

Globally, Toyota plans to expand to around 30 dedicated battery electric vehicles (BEVs), including five carrying the bZ (Beyond Zero) brand moniker, by 2030. This diverse portfolio of electrified products will help propel Toyota toward its goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.
