Lack of charging infrastructure is often cited as the main reason to not purchase an electric vehicle (EV) by consumers. Most notably by those who don’t have access to a driveway. As such the growth of reliable public charging infrastructure is seen as key to aiding the transition to EV.

Cutting air pollution a key driver for local authorities

Transport is unsurprisingly one of the main sources of pollution for Redbridge Council. Inspiring local residents to embrace emobility will help reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality in the borough.

“Our goal is to keep expanding Redbridge’s on-street electric vehicle charging network to make it easier for local people to switch to an electric vehicle, helping to cut air pollution and tackle climate change in the process.” – Cllr Jas Athwal | Leader of Redbridge Council

For local authorities, partnering with ambitious private companies opens doors to investment and projects that offer lasting benefits.

Consequently, by increasing the size of Redbridge’s on-street charging network, confidence should grow for residents that EV ownership is a realistic option in today’s world.

‘Why is this important?’ The view from the partners

“Drivers often tell me that being able to access reliable charging near their homes is critical to their decision to switch to an electric vehicle. By targeting investment where it is most needed, we are confident that many more drivers will make the switch to electric.” – Andrew Brem, General Manager | Uber UK

“We are thrilled to support Redbridge Council in what is a very significant project that will drastically improve access to EV charging in the borough, as well as supporting the Council’s Clean Air targets. The partnership with Uber is an excellent example of private industry working together with councils to accelerate the roll out of EV charging in the UK.” – Guy Bartlett, CEO | Believ
